Saturday 10th:
@SnodlandRidersCCC - adults group social bike ride. Around 1.5 hours at a chatty pace, about 12 to 15 miles with an option to cut it shorter for those wishing to do so. Lead by qualified ride leaders.
Always friendly and welcoming. Meet 10am at Snodland Community Centre. No lycra necessary. New riders always welcome. We retire to a cafe afterwards for coffee and more chatting, but this is optional of course.

These sessions are designed to help young people, and adults, who might otherwise struggle with the costs to repair their bikes at bike shops. We aim to empower, teach and support people to be able to fix for themselves.`

#DidYouKnow that Community Cycleworks is 13 years old?

Stewart Vanns and Matt Beale-Collins founded Community Cycleworks in 2012 after they noticed a growing number of children missing out on free Bikeability training—simply because they didn’t have a bike or theirs was broken, with no way to fix it.

Frustrated by a lack of access and a growing ‘throwaway’ culture, they set out to make a change. Community Cycleworks gives young people, often from marginalised backgrounds, the space and support to learn basic bike repair skills, use second-hand parts to keep things affordable, and take part in fun, confidence-boosting cycling activities that open up new possibilities.

🔧 We’re proud to be a partner of Southwark Youth Justice Service. Since 2018 we have delivered bike refurbishment sessions to young people as part of their reparation and restorative justice programmes.

These sessions offer more than just bike repair skills—they give young people the chance to build confidence, learn responsibility, and experience achievement in a supportive, hands-on environment. These bikes are then put into the hands of local people, supporting them to cycle.

We’ve seen first-hand how something as simple as fixing a bike can open the door to better choices and brighter futures. One young person even said, “I never thought I could fix something on my own. Now I want to do more.”

It’s about changing mindsets and giving young people the tools—literally and figuratively—to rebuild.

By day, Tom keeps bikes in top shape and empowers others to do the same. By… well, the other part of the day, he’s a professional researcher and full-time cycling advocate.

Naturally nosey and always up for a chat, Tom thrives on meeting new people and sharing his passion for cycling as a practical, sustainable way to get around. He believes two wheels have the power to change lives – and he’s on a mission to make cycling more accessible for everyone.

His speciality? Bike-based DIY. Whether it’s a squeaky brake or a slipped chain, Tom’s all about giving riders the confidence and skills to handle everyday repairs themselves – no bike shop required.

🚴‍♀️ Say hello to Emily – cycle coach, instructor, ride leader, and trainee cycle mechanic! Based in South London, Emily is passionate about getting more people confident and excited on two wheels, whether it’s on-road or off.

She coaches both kids and adults, and leads sessions for our #GirlsBike2 cycling club, where she`s inspiring the next generation of riders. From road and track to gravel, mountain biking and even the occasional cyclocross race, Emily loves mixing it up and exploring all corners of the cycling world.

Her favourite part of the job? Encouraging others to give something new a go and watching their confidence grow with every ride 🚴‍♂️💪
