What’s Happening Kent
Keep up to date with what we’re doing in Kent:
Saturday 22nd March, it`s ride time!
We have TWO planned rides.
A shorter route, 7 miles around the Lakes, up to Birling and back.
A longer route, around 16 miles to Burham and Aylesford and back through the Lakes.
Both routes will showcase the beautiful Kentish countryside.
Meet at Snodland Community Centre, 10am.
Leaders for the longer ride are Andy W, Andy S, Pete. Stewart will be leading the shorter route.
The rides are both social and chatty as ever and the pace is very civilised. Optional coffee and cakes at the finish.
No lycra or sporty bikes necessary.
New riders always welcome.

If you`re bike is in need of some love, then our #Bikefix is a “triage” service: fixing minor issues and checking to make sure bikes are safe and road worthy. The service is performed by trained and skilled bike mechanics. The majority of bike issues can be fixed on the spot, meaning you can attend these events in the knowledge you’ll probably be able to ride away on a bike that feels as good as new!
It`s all funded by @WeAreCyclingUK #BigBikeRevival so there is no cost, apart from maybe a small charge for parts if they are required.

We were frantically busy at our last session so we know there is work to done here in Cardiff!
#CommunityCycleworks is excited to be partnering in Cardiff with Green Squirrel @bemoresquirrel at the Railway Gardens in Splott, to offer some taster sessions of our Drop in #Bikefix workshops.
These sessions are designed to help young people, and adults, who might otherwise struggle with the costs to repair their bikes at bike shops. We aim to empower, teach and support people to be able to fix for themselves.`
Nelson will be on hand to offer advice, and guidance to carry out basic repairs.
We are on a mission to empower more people, especially those that are typically under-represented within the cycling community, to have access to a bike, the skills to repair, and the confidence and opportunities to ride more.

It’s time to meet Hayley, our London Operations and Workshop Manager 👋
Hayley is a global bike traveller who bikepacked from the UK to Australia – that’s an insane amount of mileage.
She is a super-mechanic who loves teaching people how to fix bikes and enjoys the stoke of riding fixie, mountain bike, road…anything really that involves fun on a bike.
Hayley leads our Friday #Bikefix sessions at our Portland Street Workshop in South London and ensures that all of the sessions run smoothly, whether workshop based, outreach or youth club. She also supports our Fix-A-Bike® workshops teaching children their first basics of bike repairs and coordinating everything behind the scenes. (Not a small task!)

In 2024 we supported 29 community events and youth clubs and helped 402 people, young and old, learn to repair their bikes. We can’t wait to continue this work in 2025 and upskill more communities.

Seb is a highly skilled mechanic, ride leader, mountain biker and everyday rider with a passion for teaching people. He has an almost encyclopedic brain for bike parts and components and a substantial collection of early mountain bikes from the 80’s and 90’s. #retro/vintage
He is integral to many of our workshop activities. He falls off the most too - because he is like a big child on a bike and plays around pushing his limits.

What an amazing weekend we’ve had with our Community #Bikefix teams in Kent and Cardiff.
Simon, Stewart, Syed and Sam, our young volunteer from @SnodlandBikeClub, headed to the @Coopuk in Cuxton to help get members of the local community back on two wheels.

We are taking part in Repair Week next Monday! @londonrecyclesuk is hosting Repair Week next week, where you can learn to fix things for free - from textiles to electronics, and of course, bikes.
Our London workshop will be open on Monday 3rd March 5-8pm for you to pop by with your bicycle and learn to fix it! 🔧
It is free to come along and learn, and some parts will be covered in the cost however if your bike requires extensive work, you will be given the estimation of costs. We offer a discounted rate (~25% off) for U18s, students, those on benefits, and the elderly.
